Humanities Minor
The humanities minor is a program of study that provides students with an opportunity to study the humanities through a discipline-based, interdisciplinary or topically focused approach.

The program consists of 18 credits of approved humanities coursework. Of these 18 credits, a minimum of 12 credits of minor coursework must be completed in addition to any courses (required courses or program electives) included in the major curriculum.
The capstone course in the program is HU498 Directed Study in the Humanities. In addition to submitting a formal paper, qualified candidates for the humanities minor will be invited to summarize their research in an oral report to the department faculty. Copies of the approved directed study projects are bound for the library, the department and the student.
Eligibility
You may apply for the minor at the end of your first year of study and before your last didactic year. You must have a 2.0 GPA or higher and approval of your advisor to apply for the program.

Required Course
- HU 498 Directed Study in the Humanities (Credits: 3)
Elective Courses
With the exception of EN101 College Composition and EN102 Introduction to Literature—neither of which applies to the humanities minor—courses may be selected from the department’s general listing of courses. One of the Intellectual Heritage courses may apply to the humanities minor. All courses applicable to the humanities minor must be preapproved by the chair of the Department of Humanities.
