Bedway Named to 2008 CoSIDA Academic All District At-Large Team

Philadelphia, Pa. - (5/25/08) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s tennis player Amanda Bedway was named today to the 2008 CoSIDA College Division Academic All-District 2 Women’s At-Large Team.

Bedway (Blue Mountain High School/Orwigsburg, Pa.), a senior, was named as a second team selection in balloting done by the District 2 Sports Information Directors.

The District 2 College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and District of Columbia. To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a minimum 3.20 grade point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.

Bedway, a pharmacy major, recently completed her first professional year in the university’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. Amanda has a 3.87 grade point average.

A two-time selection to the Philadelphia Area Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team, Bedway garnered recognition as the 2007 Philadelphia All-Academic Area Performer of the Year. The 2008 team has yet to be announced. Amanda has also been named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Fall All-Academic Team three times and has earned Dean’s List honors at USP in every semester.

In her fourth and final year as a member of the women’s tennis team, Bedway recorded an 8-3 singles record at the #1 singles slot, leading the Devils to their third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoff berth, where the Devils lost in the semi-finals. The Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania native also reached the semi-finals of the CACC Individual Tournament and earned All-conference honors for the 2007 season.

The former Blue Mountain High School star has completed her fourth and final season as a member of USP’s women’s tennis team. Bedway finished her career with a 33-13 singles mark and a 33-10 doubles mark giving her an overall 66-23 (74.1%) record. Her 66 wins are the most in the history of the program.
