Hasan Named
CACC Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week
Philadelphia (September 10, 2007) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia freshman women’s tennis player Zahra Hasan (Ward Melville High School/East Setauket, N.Y.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 9, 2007.
Hasan opened the 2007 season with a perfect week, winning both her matches at #3 singles and both matches at #2 doubles. Starting the week on Thursday against Arcadia University, Zahra teamed up with Christina Sebastiani to record an 8-2 win at #2 doubles over Arcadia’s Brittany McCall and Sarah Lapp. Remaining perfect on the day, Hasan recorded a 6-2, 6-0 straight set win over McCall at #3 singles.
On Saturday, Hasan again teamed up with Sebastiani at #2 doubles with an 8-1 win over Caldwell College’s Emilie Skidnore and Patty Messick. Skidmore later became Zahra’s second straight singles victim, as the rookie won 6-1, 7-5.
Hasan, a pharmacy major, is in her first season of competition for the Devils.
In addition, USP senior Amanda Bedway (Blue Mountain High School/ Orwigsburg, Pa.) was named to the CACC honor roll for her perfect performance during the week. Bedway went 2-0 at #1 singles and teamed up with Sarah Leonard to go 2-0 at #1 doubles.
USP will face Eastern University at home starting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007 before taking on CACC newcomer Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, September 15, 2007, also at home and starting at noon.
