Willard Earns Third Consecutive CACC Runner of the Week Honors
Aifuwa also named to CACC Cross Country Honor Roll

Philadelphia (September 17, 2007) – Three races into the season and University of the Sciences cross country runner Matt Willard (Cardinal O’Hara High School/Broomall, PA) continues to excel on the field, earning his third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award for his performance during the week ending September 16, 2007

The former Cardinal O’Hara runner has now earned the CACC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors all three times it has awarded this season, sharing the honor with Wilmington University’s Joe Debus the first week (Sept. 4) and earning it outright last week (Sept. 10)

Willard led the Devils to a first place finish amongst the Division II and III schools competing at the University of Delaware Invitational, their first ever first place showing at a regular season invitational meet. The Devils scored 30 points, 28 more than second place and fellow CACC member Wilmington University.

Willard, a sophomore pharmacy major, completed the 8,000 meter course in 27:37 to finish in second place overall amongst the Division II/III runners. Willard also set the school course record for the course at White Clay Creek State Park and was the second fastest 8,000-meter time by any runner on any course in school history, missing the top mark by just .15 of a second.

The former Cardinal O’Hara athlete is in his second season of competition for the Devils. As a freshman and the Devils #2 runner in 2006, he helped lead the Devils to a seventh place finish at the CACC Championships while earning All-CACC honors.

On the women’s side, senior Joy Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, N.J.) was named to the CACC cross country honor roll for her third place finish at Saturday’s University of Delaware Invitational. Joy completed the 6,000-meter course in 24:46.

Next up for the Devils will be the Philadelphia Metro Championships at Belmont Plateau on Saturday, September 22, 2007.
