Willey Earns CACC Runner of the Week Honors
Aifuwa also named to CACC Cross Country Honor Roll

Philadelphia (October 16, 2007) –University of the Sciences men’s cross country runner Nick Willey (Shenendehowa High School/Clifton Park, N.Y.) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award for his performance during the week ending October 14, 2007

The former Shenendehowa High School runner earned his first ever CACC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor with a sixth place performance at the Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia. His effort helped lead the Devils to a third place finish at the meet, their fourth “top three” finish this season in six events.

Willey, a junior pharmacy major, completed the 8,000 meter course in 27:47 .91 and was the first CACC runner to finish. Nick’s time is the third fastest ever run by a USP runner on the current 8,000 meter Belmont course, behind his own personal best time of 27:36.85 set at the 2006 Belmont Classic and teammate Matt Willard’s 27:44 set in the same race.

The former Shenendehowa athlete is in his third season of competition for the Devils. As the Devils top runner last season, he helped lead USP to a seventh place finish at the 2006 CACC Championships. As a freshman, Nick earned CACC Rookie of the Week honors three times.

On the women’s side, senior Joy Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, N.J.) was named to the CACC cross country honor roll for her sixth place finish at Saturday’s Cabrini Invitational. Joy completed the 5,000-meter course in 19:38.81 and was the third CACC finisher. The former Edison High School athlete has earned CACC Runner of the Week honors twice and has been named to the honor roll three times in 2007.

Next up for the Devils will be the CACC Conference Championships at Belmont Plateau on Saturday, October 20, 2007.
