Striving to promote a safe and welcoming environment to improve the quality of campus life for everyone learning and working at USciences, the Department of Public Safety will kick off its Campus Safety Week on Monday, Sept. 9.

Since his first day as director of public safety at USciences, James Waldon has vowed to maintain and improve campus security for all members of the University’s community. That’s why he’s encouraging students to participate in interactive activities to get familiarized with different safety tools and initiatives USciences has to offer.
“After spending all day in class, I recognize the last thing students want to do in their free time is sit and hear people talk to them about what they can do to stay safe on campus,” said Waldon. “By offering activities like Quizzo and self-defense training, we allow the students to have fun, yet still take important safety messages away with them.”
Here’s a list of planned activities for Campus Safety Week:
  • Monday, Sept. 9: Quizzo in Wilson Dining Hall from 8-9 p .m. This game is played in teams where each team attempts to correctly answer the most trivia questions. Prizes and refreshments will be provided.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 10: Learn self-defense moves in the Quad from 1-2 p.m.
  • Poster contest: Students are encouraged to design a poster to promote safety on campus at USciences. All entries are due by midnight on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and can be emailed to USciSafety@gmail.com.
  • Thursday, Sept. 12: Meet-and-Greet with USciences public safety officers in room 140 of the Pharmacology and Toxicology Center from 7-8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and the winner of the poster contest will be announced. This provides students the opportunity to ask the officers questions, and learn more about safety amenities offered on campus.
