Suzanne K. Murphy, PhD, Dean, Misher College of Arts and Sciences, was presented with the Honorary Alumnus Award at University of the Sciences’ Alumni Reunion on Sept. 28, 2013. The award is presented to a non-alumnus/a who has shown exemplary dedication and commitment to the mission of the University.
Dr. Murphy has taught hundreds of students from across the entire university and worked closely with students in the Department of Biological Sciences since her arrival in 1985. Following a national search, she was appointed dean of Misher College of Arts and Sciences in 2009. Over the course of her tenure at the University, she has mentored innumerable students in undergraduate and graduate research and spent many years as the University’s “pre-med advisor.” Dr. Murphy also assumed leadership roles in the professional organizations of advisors for the health professions regionally and nationally.
Dr. Murphy earned her BA in biology from Rosemont College; she then moved onto Bryn Mawr College’s MS program to study development biology. She received her PhD in pathology at Hahnemann University School of Medicine and completed two post-doctoral fellowships in the area of cancer biology at SmithKline Beckman and Albert Einstein Hospital, respectively.
She and her husband Bob live with their three dogs, three cats, and 20 Koi.
