Catherine M. Bentzley


Assistant Professor, Chemistry


Education:

Ph.D, analytical chemistry, University of Delaware.

B.S., chemistry, St. Joseph's University.

Expertise:

Analytical chemistry, separation and detection of natural product components, utilizing drug/DNA interactions using mass spectrometry, molecular weight determinations, chemical interactions.

Background:

Dr. Bentzley has been an assistant professor of chemistry at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia since 1997. She has been a lectern for general chemistry and established a mass spectrometry research laboratory. Before coming to USP, she was a research assistant for five years at the University of Delaware. She also spent time as a research chemist at DuPont and a laboratory technician at Esschem Chemical Company.

She is involved with numerous organizations, including the Delaware Valley Mass Spec Discussion Group, American Chemical Society, American Society for Mass Spectrometry and the Association for Women in Science. She has received several honors, including the University of Delaware’s Elizabeth Dyer Excellence in Teaching Award (Department of Chemistry) and the Camille and the Henry Dreyfus Foundation Travel Grant at the Sixth National Conference of the Council on Undergraduate Research.
