Dr.
McGhan is a professor of pharmacy and health policy.
He has been instrumental in advancing research
and graduate training in
health policy and health economics at University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He is director of the
graduate program in pharmaceutical economics and his specialization
is in clinical economics and patient care decision analysis.

After
completing his initial pharmacy degree, he became the
pharmacy director of the Appalachian Student Health Project,
which served needy communities in 13 states. He
then served in Washington, D.C., for five years on the
executive staff of the American Pharmaceutical Association,
becoming director of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
After completing an AFPE fellowship at the University
of Minnesota, he joined the faculty of the University
of Southern California, where he was director of evaluation
for the ground-breaking project with pharmacists as drug
prescribers. He then moved to the University of
Arizona where he was one of the founding researchers in
the U of A center for pharmacoeconomics. At
Arizona he was promoted to professor and served as coordinator
for the Division of Administrative Sciences.

Dr.
McGhan has generated substantial amounts of outside funding
as principal investigator on numerous grants and contracts.
He has authored several books and book chapters
as well as over 200 journal articles and monographs.
He is a past president of the Academy of Pharmaceutical
Research and Science and he has served on the board of
directors of
the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
He was a co-recipient of the Lyman Award for outstanding
research articles published in the American Journal
of Pharmaceutical Education.
He was the recipient of the American Society of
Consultant Pharmacists' highest honor, the Archambault
Award, for outstanding professional contributions.
He is an elected Fellow of the AAPS in recognition
for his distinguished scientific contributions and leadership.
He is a founder of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics
and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and served as the association's
founding President. Additional memberships include the
AAPS, ASHP and APhA.
He is a speaker and consultant for numerous companies
and organizations around the world.
His research focuses on patient care decision analysis,
outcomes research and clinical economics.
